MC/Producer/DJ Mr. CRF first got into HIPHOP music
in the mid 80,s after being fed a diet of rap music by
his elder brother, who was also a DJ back then. Early influences
ranged from the Ultramagnetic MC's, Public Enemy, K-Solo
to MC Buzz B (whom he's now working with) Hijack and Poor
Righteous Teachers to name but a few.. |
Around 1992 he started writing
lyrics and producing beats with Mc Wayne D and then
took to Dj-ing a year later when he bought his first
set of decks. After creating quite a few demo tapes
and Djing at a few local bars and clubs, CRF began
to make a bit of a name for himself locally around
town. It was during a freestyle session at the Canal
Bar in 95 that CRF met DJ Jepi and they have worked
on various projects together ever since.. After producing
a whole load of tracks they gained interest in 1996
from an independent company named Wax Digital and
got various gigs and P.A.'s around town in Nightclubs
and Music Festivals. Their relationship with WAX
came to an end about 12 months later due to the company
wanting CRF to take more of a commercial approach
with the music they were creating. As the DJ-ing
Mr CRF created the Critical Beatdown Rap Show approx.
4 years ago and has had his
show on 4 different radio stations (Most of which
have been Pirates - Buzz 88, Northsoul etc). His
show has commanded a good following due to the Underground
Independent Hip Hop he chooses to play, rather than
the commercialized Jiggy hip hop, that various other
Dj's play. Right now, his show can be heard on new
station, Extreme 106.6 FM on Friday nights. Besides
DJ-ing and MC-ing, MR CRF also has his own independent
Hip Hop magazine, also called Critical Beatdown plus
an independent label "ToneDef Recordings".
As far as the magazine is concerned, each issue is
getting better and the response so far has been excellent,
with a circulation of around 1000 (100 of these are
reaching the streets of New York!)
The record Label "ToneDef
" was basically started to get his music to the
public instead of waiting for other people to do it
for him. So far, the first release on the Label was
a limited edition 7" vinyl featuring 6 tracks
from Mr. CRF, with Guest vocalist MC Wayne D. The
production coming from CRF, DJ Jepi and King Infamous.
More tracks are coming soon, plus they'll be some
new joints from the Oldskool veteran MC Buzz B &
also "The Rap Parasites", which are the
new Hip Hop crew put together and started by CRF.
There'll also be some Critical Beatdown Mix tapes
from CRF coming soon. You can also check out the Mr
CRF remix for DMC records of the Busta Rhymes classic
"Put Ya Hands where my eyes can see", released
during Sept/Oct 2001, on 12" vinyl plus remixes
for Big L and Mobb Deep hopefully coming soon.
